a campfire releases more carbon into the atmosphere than letting the wood decompose and it does that carbon release years earlier than decomposition. It I am having a campfire the smoke will not bother anyone, I make sure of that. Fleece will not help when we need air-conditioning buying fleece is probably just as damaging to the environment as the amount of heating that would make them unnecessary for us. Going without the fleece or the heat is the best thing but is a little uncomfortable.

What personal standard causes you to avoid plastic packaging. I avoid it for environmental reasons but doing so limits my choices of products, vendors and retailers. Just another sacrifice for the environment. Avoiding plastic, recycling, not buying a huge pickup truck, conserving energy, and not buying so much stuff, is not conforming around here it is unconventional. What I think about my behavior interests me and what other people think, not so much but more and more I think they might be right. I am wasting my time and effort and suffering needlessly. My sacrifices are meaningless and worse they make my family's life worse for no benefit to anyone.

We need to force everyone to sacrifice so that the sacrifice makes enough difference to be meaningful. I am done tilting at windmills.
