A lot of us have been doing those small changes for decades. Our efforts are overwhelmed by the profligate expenditures of the masses of ignorant consumers. I do drive a pickup truck, one of the smallest on the market. It gets pretty good fuel economy. When an electric small pickup truck comes on the market I will switch. I need the utility of a pickup truck and sacrifice some utility going with a small one but I prefer it to a large one for many reasons in addition to fuel economy including it fits in my garage, something my friends pickups don't do.
My wife scoffs at my recycling. She tells me I am wasting my effort as it is all going into the same landfill as our trash. It was once not so but now she is mostly right. I am rich but I still take scrap to the scrap yard instead of put it in the trash even though that means I have to process and transport it.
I will keep doing the right thing but I have no illusions of it making a real difference.
