A stock, bond, gold, real estate, cash portfolio is more diversified. I think eggs in more baskets is better.

I like you story but the next one should address how to balance your portfolio. 80/20 is not magic and I know you know that and just needed to pick something for the analysis.

When you suggested 5% gold, did you mean 75/20/5 or 80/15/5?

While it is outdated axiom there was an idea that the percentage of bonds in your portfolio should equal your age.

With the market being maybe overbought, 80% in equities seems high for a retiree.
