After a quick read of your story and little thought I am inclined to disagree with much.

Still not a bad story.

I think Mad Jack was maybe more than eccentric but maybe pathological.

This is evil. It smack of loving war. “If it wasn’t for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!”

I disagree with Holiday and you regarding fear. To feel fear when confronted with danger is normal. To not feel fear is insane. A person who does not feel fear is not courageous they are crazy. What is courageous, brave, is to feel fear but overcome it, to control it. To be afraid but still do what needs to be done, that is bravery.
