Could someone run a non-profit to provide medical care? Yes. Other medical care providers, seeing this new entity encroaching on their market and threatening their existence

Again, not true. People do run non-profit medical care providers and no the other medical care providers do not see this as threatening. Sometimes other medical care providers provide pro bono, reduced cost, or full price services to the non-profit providers. There is a huge number of non-profit and not-for-profit hospitals and clinics. Some communities that is all they have as they are dependent on charity, no for profit provider serves the area.

I had a for profit dentist, guess what he did for vacation, he travelled to a poor area with no dentist and gave the people clothing and fixed their dental problems. If he had not excess profit he could not do that. You might say that he did not have excess profit it was just his wages but he did not get paid a wage his income was the profit of his sole proprietorship. He was not certain to get a profit it depended on business conditions, he could actually work a lot of hours and still lose money.

Reading thru your story, I see much that I think is inaccurate. I have pointed out a couple examples but there is much more of dubious accuracy.
