Because so few of the powerful are secure "The powerful can be as timid as the weak. What seems to count more than possession of instruments of power is faith in the future." We have seen so many powerful people brought down. The position of people in power is precarious. The greatest power is that power that remains anonymous and hidden as it is most secure. Somewhere down the list of the worlds riches people you get to people few people think about or know about but are still very rich and powerful. I bet they have faith in their future and have plans for most eventualities.

I love the phrase "vanity of the selfless" the reward of selflessness is vanity and anything that is rewarded is not selfless. The selfless are delusional.
