Certainly before asking someone in your workplace on a date you have to think a little deeper than other situations. I would not ask someone I work with on a day to day basis on a date. Too much can go wrong there. I would not ask someone out of the blue.

I would think it was not that bad, maybe annoyed, displeased or irritated.

I can't claim to really understand it from your point of view but how badly does knowing that they would date you but them knowing that you would not date them make is socially complicated. Could be worse you could have turned down one and not the other.
