Did I suggest waiting? I think not. I actually said they should have already been prepared for disaster. Absolutely the economies will hold together for more than another 5 years, all the more time to prepare. The duration until society degrades to the point of crisis matters a lot to older people as if it can be delayed, they may not live to see it.

Writers often describe collapse as happening slowly and then all at once. This is not a given, often it is in increments, a chip here a crack there, the shine mostly gone, starts running rough, starts burning oil but still limps along never seeming to die.

If we had another great recession, people would claim the end is here, or worse a great depression. We have seen those and overcome them. Yes, this time will be different, but society is more robust than you seem to think. Humans adapt.
