Did you read the story you referenced and maybe others about that same subject. They don't run out of money in 2033, the reserves will be depleted but Social Security brings in new money every year. It did not say "big fat zero" it said reduced by 20%.

Anyway, I could live off my IRA without my Lockheed pension or social security. All eggs are not in the same basket. I also own my house, no mortgage.
