Did you really research this properly for this story. "No one wants to talk about whether we should abandon areas like New Orleans that are experiencing this sort of systemic failure. But we should." It was certainly talked about, talked about a lot. There is an almost a force migration in Louisiana with a whole island's population being resettled.

There was much debate about the changes to New Orleans levies and the closure of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet. Those changes along with the Coastal Wetlands Restoration Project are expected to provide protection for New Orleans from sea rise. The science might be wrong but the decisions were not made without science.
