Economic Perversity

Disasters increase the GDP. You see, the losses are not counted in GDP only the added production.

The perversity of the GDP is legendary. I am not going to get into it, but everyone knows, or should know, the GDP measures the increase in the wealth of the rich. Full stop, nothing else.

The profits to be made on the wildfires are huge, just take the damages and double them and that is about how much the rich will benefit from the wildfires. Today betting on disaster might be one of the sure things in investment for the future.
