Effort is not deserving of reward. If what they did adds proper value then it should be reflected in increased readership which is the measure that justifies the reward. I just spent many hours making a quarterstaff. Nobody will pay me enough for that quarterstaff that I would earn even minimum wage for my efforts. I will gift that staff to someone who might appreciate the craftmanship and love that went into it. If the value the staff that is reward enough.

I know people try to earn a living or at least extra spending money on Medium. I give my writing away for free to anyone even those who don't subscribe. I have written hundreds of stories and thousands of responses.
