Excessive Professional Courtesy. Too often we give people the respect of their position instead of understanding that the position is not the person. Our outgoing President is a obvious example. You can respect the Position of the President and know that the person holding the office does not deserve the respect of the Position.

Cult of Personality - we want to think these people are great. Wake up, they are human and have and will fail. Their first sin is often pride. We put them on a pedestal and they act like they belong there.

While I don't know if it is true it is told that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Any leader who lacks humility is going to disappoint us.

Infidelity is bad enough but compound it with lies and deception and you are spreading the poison far and wide. You start by hurting a few people close to you and then the circle of hurt grows.

I don't know how many Christians to whom I have tried to explain forgiveness. It starts with confession but that is just the first step on a long path. Confession needs to be followed with true confession, the confessor needs to come to true understanding of their sin. Understanding of the extent of their victims. Confessions from the famous who are often coached as to there choice of expressions often sound and probably are inauthentic. More focused on healing their brand than healing their soul. You have to follow confession with changes in behavior. You have to demonstrate that you have reformed and that you won't relapse(read this as you are never forgiven as long as you still live you might relapse, you can be forgiven when you die). If you don't do everything you can while you live (make amends) to correct all the damage you have done you won't be forgiven when you die.

This does not mean we have to withhold trust and position from sinners. We are all sinners and that includes people in all positions. The unforgiven can and must still work both to heal and to contribute and advance society. We can begin to trust them after they demonstrate real remorse.

We must remain skeptical of everyone in high positions, it is better for them if we don't let their heads get inflated with pride and excessive professional courtesy.
