Fiat is a poor store of value but almost completely safe. The value of cash won't crash to nothing overnight. Fiat might be a poor store of value but the U.S. Dollar is the second best medium of exchange, accepted almost everywhere and it is almost totally surveillance free. The very best medium of exchange is a Dollar based credit card with a high limit and generous cash back. It does have the drawback that it is completely traceable and you can be sure your data is being stolen. It has the benefit in that your purchases are insured, if you get swindled you have easy recourse to reverse the transaction. If you pay your balance every month it costs you nothing and you actually get a discount on your purchases. They pay you to use their product.

Bitcoin is a poor medium of exchange, so poor I don't understand how they can even consider a currency. Almost nobody accepts it and if they do they charge you a huge fee and they never give you cash back.

Bitcoin might be a good store of value but you have to have you timing right because sometimes its value drops. A better store of value might be a balanced portfolio of stock, real estate and bond Mutual Funds. With the advent of almost free brokerage services the fees are tiny, mostly the mutual funds fees.
