Do your own research but consider that tuna packed in water, the water is almost useless, low value. Tuna packed in oil, the oil is higher value. Sort of for the same reasons you would not choose it for non-emergency use. The oil adds fat and calories, something we normally try to avoid. In an emergeny extra fat and calories are a benefit. Also the oil, if separated and accumulated has other uses. It could be used for cooking or baking. It could also be used as a fuel, like lamp oil.

I stockpile tuna in my Hurricane stash; it will be packed in oil this year.
