For Musk to self-finance Space-X more than he has already he would have to sell or borrow against his Tesla stock. Selling Tesla stock would hurt the price and he would owe capital gains. Borrowing against his Tesla stock might be like buying it on margin and would be subject to margin calls. He would be going all in.
