Freedom and Peace are a mater of degree. Nobody ruled by a government, or a gang is really free. There will not be peace in the Donbas no matter who officially rules the Donbas. Much like that Israeli/Palestinian situation.

NATO is in this fight just not troops on the ground. This is a war between NATO and Russia over Ukraine. NATO wants to keep expanding, Ukraine will not be the end of NATO expansion. Russia will just have to get over it. Russia is much diminished compared to the USSR. Someday someone will rule from the Kremlin who better understands how Russia can fit into the world order.
