There is no defense for continuing most forms of gold mining. It is not like we need more gold to store in bank vaults.

There are about 190,000 tonnes of gold not in the ground. Less than 5,000 tonnes are used each year for all uses but almost none of the is actually consumed. Almost all gold is either stored or recycled, little becomes waste. Most of all gold just sits in expensive vaults with a lot of security.

Gold mining causes environmental damage, violent conflict, murders, other crimes and industrial accidents.

We have more gold than we need, what is sill in the ground is best left there.
