Good story. I am not a progressive but I am open to UBI. I am opposed to a Federal Value Added Tax. That is a Trojan Horse. I can’t support a Federal Value Added Tax without some restriction that will never let any of the VAT money be spent on anything but UBI and the UBI books and the Federal Budget and the VAT revenue be totally separated. Politicians would raid that pot of money in a heartbeat. Either suppressing UBI growth or even reducing UBI to spend the money on their priorities.

Why do we need a new tax anyway. Just increase the tax rate on the rich or eliminate the mortgage interest deduction on second homes or eliminate the deductibility of charitable contributions.

If we eliminate poverty won’t it increase our greenhouse gas emissions? We need to reduce the emissions of the rich to make up the difference. We need GHG reductions not increases.

If we are going to have UBI we need to ration carbon.
