Great story. I hope I remember to go back and clap.
“truly down, you see Black in all its kaleidoscopic glory”
I am sure I am not “truly down.” I do see a kaleidoscope of people.
I almost always try to figure out everyone’s culture. Not to be racist but avoid putting my foot in my mouth. For instance, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hmong, Chinese. So often these people are not afforded their unique culture. It try to treat most people as equals but I don’t think you can do that by treating them like they are all the same. A black person from Selma or Memphis is not like a black person from Boston or New York City. A Honduran is not a Mexican and a Mayan from the Yucatan is a Mexican but they are really Native American.
My black friends and coworkers are Middle Class and probably a lot like you. When they speak to me they speak the same kind of English that I speak. I don’t know many poor or rich black people. While they are not coworkers per say where I work and shop it is mostly black people doing most of the labor and it is mostly white people who are the bosses. It is not completely like that, for a while the VP of our division was a black woman and the VP of manufacturing was a black man. Both were highly regarded by everyone but the racists.
We have a struggle with those that don’t want to share and get along.
