You can try to live better by being bigger but it is established that it is more likely you will live better in a country that being better is more important than being bigger. GDP per capita is more important for prosperity than headline GDP. Another problem with Growth as a measure of success, is it does not count the costs. Working people to death at low wages might be great for GDP but it only contributes to the prosperity of upper management and stockholders.
