I agree that the pressure that got her removed/leaving was mostly inappropriate.
(It should be noted that Union’s fellow judge Julianne Hough was also “rotated out” while longtime judge Howie Mandel was kept on. But it should be noted that she, too, experienced tension on set with repeated criticisms of her appearance.)
I think appearance is a production value that the producers are allowed to dictate unless the terms of the contract devolve that characteristic to the artist. When they signed their contract did they include in the contract the right to pick their clothing, makeup and hairstyle. For TV shows and movies aren’t those things determined by the producer and implemented by “wardrobe” and “makeup?”
