I agree with this story and feel similarly. I was a conservationist before the environmental movement.

It is unnatural for a population to choose to suffer today for a better life in the future especially one they might not live to see. I think our democracy is destined to do too little to late regarding climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental damages. We will not be able to build a majority coalition for the environment until it gets much worse. Without a majority the government will not step up and that, regulation, is what is needed.
