I am not saying that this is not true but what Chinese GDP data are you using for this comparison. My understanding is there is no accurate measure of Chinese GDP. If you are using some best estimate by a reputable non-Chinese source, I would be more inclined to believe this. Not that I think Chinese, European vs. Amercan GDP comparisions or even GDP as a measurement is/are very meaningful.
