I am not saying you are wrong but how do you measure the value of the work you do?

I have struggled with this. What is the value of an hour of manual labor? What is the value of an hour of work in a call center? Someone working in research and development might create enough value from a single innovation to pay their salary for a lifetime. An EMT might save someone's life, what should they get for that, a cash bonus?
