I am not sure my beliefs in America have changed. America was always overrated.
The elites that run the show make sure they will always come out on top. America's richest will always be the worlds richest or it won't be for a lack of stealing from the rest.
Regarding
"in May, Bernie, soon-to-be VP Kamala, and Ed Markey were fighting for Americans to get $2,000 checks for every month of the pandemic"
If they did that they would have spent $3.6 trillion on just those payments and we would be adding another $600 billion a month to that total. That is with no extra money for unemployment, small businesses, airlines or state and local governments. What you and they are talking about it twice what anyone was considering for UBI before the pandemic. It is no surprise that Bernie toned down his request. It never had enough life to be DOA.
I guess a lot of people are waking up to this is a country run by the elites for the benefit of the elites. Always has been and always will be. You could burn it to the ground and a new group of elites would start over to build something for themselves, of the elites, by the elites for the elites. It is actually human nature, the nature of power. Study after study has shown that for almost all kinds of people, the more power they have the less they care about others. You can try and scare or shame them into doing good and it works a little bit but it will not change the country or the world.
