I am sure Miami will not be abandoned; it would be a case for protections and mitigation. Certainly, no additional development should be undertaken except to harden what is already there against sea level rise. Abandoning major metro areas is a non-starter but there are places that can be abandoned, should be abandoned, will be abandoned and should not be developed. Louisiana loses 17 square miles of coastal land each year and the state and federal government will spend billions of dollars each year to try and save some of that land. One island community has already been abandoned and the population relocated.
