There are few negative consequences in seeking an approach to life that is not based on increasing wealth. Actually, many people practice just such a life. They are retired and not seeking more wealth. Just enjoying the years they have left. Others, they might have become Monks or such and live a spartan life. We are not all in a rat race for money.
Many people once they have enough, they stop chasing more and focus more on the things that make them happy.
Yes, too much focus on money and GDP. Neither will make you happy. Avarice is a vice. Greed.
Money is the root of all evil.
Figure out how much is enough and when you have that focus on what makes life better, it will not be more money.
