I do know what I am talking about. I do know that British Petroleum is not an American company but I also know that they caused one of the biggest environmental disasters in Louisiana history.

They are an international company with operations in America. They have three refineries in the U.S.

I have a friend who works for Shell, yes, Royal Dutch Shell has refineries here in Louisiana and has had them here for over 100 years.

their crude being so heavy (and therefor highly valuable, why US companies covet it)

That is incorrect heavy crude is less valuable than light crude and Venezuelan crude sells at a discount to American crude. The reason we import heavy crude is not because it is so valuable but because it is so cheap and we have the refineries what can crack it.

Venezuelan crude is some of the heaviest and sourest crude on the market and thus is cheap.

That story reported “ARACAS — Venezuela’s weekly oil basket price fell further back below $40 as oil prices around the world slipped and as the crucial U.S. market remained well supplied.”

The average price of Venezuelan crude sold was $38.64, U.S. benchmark WTI averaged $44.76 , while British benchmark Brent crude averaged $48.04 at the time of the report.

Does that help you understand better?
