I don't consider this hope, just fact. If we fail to prevent this anthropogenic extinction it will be a mild extinction compared to the last. Human caused extinction by air pollution is self-limiting and self-correcting. While most mammals and reptiles will die, with them the humans will die causing the pollution to end and the rebirth to begin quickly compared to prior extinctions.
The fight we are fighting is not to prevent Earth from becoming a lifeless planet, it is to save some sort of advanced human civilization and preserve some of the diverse mammals and reptiles currently alive.
Sometimes I wonder if Mother Nature is willing to sacrifice some of the current biodiversity to rid the planet of these human parasites.
