I don't know the PSILY editors and have not communicated with them but it seems that while it is too late now, a model of using Patreon to support the editors might have worked considering the outpouring of support and regret over its demise.

When I have been approached by publications asking if they can publish my work it was always via e-mail. When the PSILY editors work with PSILY writers wouldn't it be via e-mail and shouldn't those messages included a solicitation for contributions to the PSILY Patreon account from the writers as well as a request to include a link to the Patreon account at the conclusion of each PSILY story.

I don't know the whole story and often it is not public but it seems that maybe the editors are not that upset that the publication is done.
