I don’t know what price you were expecting but I see the price as being within the range of expectations.

We then need to begin to redesign our basic assumptions about residents, citizens, officials, and the criteria required for someone to make decisions for the planet and all life based on the simplistic idea of common sense.………I’m not sure that is even possible given the crippled nature of our government and political system. I’m very afraid that a far bigger price than we anticipated will now need to be paid.

The price might just be less than worst case which only occurs if he wins a second term. You are right, I agree “I’m not sure that is even possible …….to make decisions for the planet and all life based on the simplistic idea of common sense.” Decisions are always based on self-interest and incentives not common sense. With the abundant perverse incentives rarely do the incentives align with common sense. The common sense self-interest of the commons is overpowered by the self-interest of the powerful. Perversely the current incentives for the powerful work against the interests of the commons. Until it is liability to be rich and powerful, the powerful will exploit whatever to become richer and more powerful.

When you see someone rich and powerful, instead idolizing them or being jealous we need to ask them “how could you?” when will you repent and make amends. When are the rich and powerful going to start paying reparations to replace or mitigate their plunder? “When hell freeze over” or when “the planet can no longer sustain life?”

What price were you expecting would have to be paid to save the planet? Were you imaging is was something less than half of the life on the planet? I think some people still believe we can save the planet and have a Status Quo U.S.A., or China or Europe or Korea/Japan. They are kidding themselves.

The future is pretty much locked in. We will just be reacting to changing circumstances. We will not get out in front of change and we will only react and effect change when the options are limited to do or die and everyone can see that is that. We will kick the can down the road until we run out of road.
