I don't think either of those cases was the mission. I imagined the mission was to quickly deploy individual combat troopers and then at the end of the mission extract them. The Jet Packs/Octo's would not need to be humped by a single individual. The jet pack has the problem that a malfunction or combat damage would more often be fatal. Regarding logistics, The Octo's could be recharged from a varitity of power sources but the Jet Packs would need a supply line of fuel. If a Jet Pack could meet the mission they would already be deployed. We could have had jet packs decades ago. Compact Jet and Rocket motors have been around a long time. Their performance has plateaued. They are not going to get much better. Octo's performance is dramatically improving. The crash video you shared was a quad. Do you understand how Octo's have redundancy that quads don't so failures are less dangerous. Did that quad have gryo's to maintain stability or was it totally manual.

Think more like a hoverboard than a flying motorcycle.
