I don't think it is inequality that warps our values. I think it is a consumer culture that warps our values. I tend to look at wealthy people as potential evil doers. You can really only get that kind of rich by exploiting others. Displaying wealth is also evil as it is a temptation to envy and covetousness. Wealth and poverty are neither virtue nor vice, it is how you got rich or poor that is virtue or vice not whether you are rich or poor. If you are poor because you give away your money or labor, that is virtue, if you are rich because lie and cheat that is vice. If you hurt anyone or everyone by exploiting workers or the environment, then you are evil even if you give away all your wealth. If there is a poor person who never hurt a soul and has a tiny environmental impact, there you have a saint.
