I don’t think you have spun the yarn quite correctly.
May it make us modest and humble, less aggressive and more cooperative. May it make us, yes, let’s say it, more Asian — just as the Asians became more Western over the last century!
If not, I’m certain — absolutely certain — that this will mark the beginning of the end not only of our Western arrogance, but also of our Western civilization.
Actually you are calling for the end of “our Western civilization.” In many ways it is already on its way out. Immodest, Proud, Aggressive, Independent, Unilateral, and yes arrogant, those are not bugs but the core values, features of American Society. Without those features it will not be “Western civilization.” What you are calling for might be a better civilization but it will lose core nature and become something new and different.
“Where have all the Cowboys gone” Like I wrote, “In many ways it is already on its way out.” Survival of the fittest, crush the weak and let them die attitude is itself passing away but only slowly. I see posts from acquaintances that deride the unlawful social distancing orders. We have a Constitution that guarantees the right to assemble and freedom of movement.
The First Amendment protects the freedom to peacefully assemble or gather together or associate with a group of people for social, economic, political or religious purposes. It also protects the right to protest the government.
Freedom of movement, mobility rights, or the right to travel is a human rights concept encompassing the right of individuals to travel from place to place within the territory of a country, and to leave the country and return to it. The right includes not only visiting places, but changing the place where the individual resides or works.
Such a right is provided in the constitutions of numerous states, and in documents reflecting norms of international law.
If a political authority can infringe on our human rights with the mere declaration of an “Emergency” then you don’t live in a “Free Country” but instead an “Authoritarian Dictatorship.” A country is not free just because they hold elections, a majority may support “Authoritarian Dictatorship” it seems we may be heading that way. I maybe be joining that crowd. It seems that “Freedom” is something society does not deserve, it was used to oppress the weak and destroy the planet. “Freedom” is a failed experiment, I will give it up with regrets, we will now be slaves to the “Majority.”
