I fear that democracy creates disunity. Democracy encourages the factionalization of the electorate. Competing constituencies. We have a failure to unite around the common purpose of greater equity instead we pursue our unique self-interests. We have no interest in raising all boats, raising the disadvantaged only raising ourselves.

We can only achieve common purpose when we have exceptionally competent leadership. That is as rare as unicorns. In the past we would come together in times of crisis but the last few crises have divided us. The leaders are signaling who they will pick to win and lose. We fall for this and chose leaders who will pick us to be winners.
