I feel like you pulled a bait and switch on me. You led with this and switched to salt consumption recommendations. That might be one example but there are many more reasons why we don't trust recommendations for experts as much anymore.
We know they are all compromised.
Regarding salt consumption recommendations, I believe (I have no evidence to support my belief) the experts in this case suggest very low consumption, lower than required because they know they are unachievable but will motivate some people to cut back on their consumption (many people consume too much salt). Just like water consumption recommendations, they know almost nobody will drink the about they recommend but expect the recommendation will get people to drink more water. It seems to be a kind of hyperbole.
The reason we don't trust the experts is that they are all captured by one organization or another. Their prestige and income depend on those organizations, so they have to toe the party line.
