I guess so. I focused more on good role models than bad. I am certain there were bad managers in the organizations for whom I worked but they were less common that that story makes them sound.
I think part of the reason it is hard to find good managers is it is a thankless and hard job, I never wanted to be a manager the rewards do not compensate for the effort and stress of being a good manager. Good managers know how to manage up and down, they often have a huge investment in their organization and aren't looking to change employers. This leads to people who aren't competent or don't want the job being promoted to manager. I was one of those.
