I have been wearing out things nobody wears since that became a song lyric. I have even been known to wear clothes with small stains. I have clothes that I have worn hundreds of times, many clothes that I have worn hundreds of times. I still wear the same size I wore 20 years ago. I only have one piece of clothing that I have never worn. It is a new pair of jeans I bought a year ago. I bought two pairs to replace the two pair I was wearing at the time. One pair of the old jeans tore at the knee (became cutoff shorts) and so I broke out one of the new pair to keep as my "dress jeans" and the remaining old pair became my everyday jeans. I have not needed the other new pair yet a year later. Some of my boxer briefs are looking a little shabby but still functional. Tee shirts and polo shirts, people and organizations give me as many as I need. The one thing I need to replace often is sandals. That is my everyday footwear and the wear out more often than anything I wear. I have boots and dress shoes that are more than 20 years old. One pair of the dress shoes has been resoled, 15 years ago. I bought a "new" pair of work boots at the thrift store a few years ago. My old pair were repaired a few times, not really serviceable but I can't bring myself to throw them away. I certainly have more clothes than I need but it took me a life time to accumulate them (I am 65) and none have ever gone to waste.
