I read the article carefully. I understood and think the article is mistaken.

The growth of demand for free range meat and plant based food will not be enough offset the loss of their existing markets. They will require even larger farm subsides.

A much better solution would be to put an appropriate price on environmental degradation. Just make the consumers pay the full real costs.
