I think it is quite clear what is happening. White privilege is being diminished as we move to a more equitable society. The backlash is to be expected and the backlash needs to be countered. We are so far from equity that anyone lobbing to retain a race-based privilege needs to be taken down a peg. It is not just Black people who are disadvantaged. Sadly, some of the most disadvantaged are the most vocal against ending race-based privilege. Poor and working-class White people had one thing going for them: they were not Black. Now some of them would be better off if they were Black. The greatest and most evil inequities we now have are not so much based on the color of your skin but what class of society you are born into. Money and connections give those that have them much privilege no matter the color of their skin. I know that White men have most of the money and connections, thus most of the privilege but not all White men. White men acting badly no longer get a free pass and the more privileged are quick to throw the less privileged White men under the bus. We have a very long way to go.
