I think that is what was trying to be said but it is not true if you don't count the environmental damage.

I think what I said is the fact, half of all oil recovered goes to the process and the net result is 50% recovery. Also not all oil wells and crude are equal. There is still a lot of high grade crude that is easily extracted but contrast that with the Canadian Tar Sands, nasty low grade crude that has to be mixed with light crude just to flow thru a pipe.

A lot of crude needs to stay right where it is in the ground but we need some oil and gas to continue to produce green infrastructure until it can bootstrap itself.
