I think this answer is obvious. No, you should not be using the same techniques even if the kids were not different. There are new and better ways to teach most subjects today than were available 20 years ago. First the textbooks need to go. They are not worth the cost. I think you could replace them all with Wikipedia. A lesson plan that used to say cover this section of textbook A can just say cover subject A with text, audio and video from public domain internet sources maybe include sample links but with search being so good these days better to search than prescribe links.

Ask yourself how you learn new things today. Do you do it the same way you did 20 years ago?

Just this week, I wanted to find out what amount of torque on a bolt would cause it to fail in torsion and how it would fail. 20 years ago, I would have looked for a stress analysis textbook, checked the table of contents or index for bolt torsion or torsion stress and then check to see if it had an equation and discussion. I had/have a book shelf of textbooks on such subjects but today I just search the internet. I got what I need much more quickly, and it was something much more easily shared with others.
