I think your gas vs. coal comparison is bias in favor of coal. You should include total mine/well to disposal impacts. Coal mines release methane, burning coal release mercury. Transportation effect are worse for coal. Coal ash is toxic. Coal mines are problematic.

Natural gas power generation is not a panacea but burning coal is not better and coal power is more expensive.
