I understand and agree. It is the same for primary and secondary education teachers. I don’t see this getting fixed until like the teachers those care givers strike and demand better pay. I expect you know that some people do the kind of work you are talking about for free, including myself.

Changing the paternalistic pay structures will take forever. Things will or might get better slowly but the gap will probably never completely go away.

Looking at it in a different way. With the aging population the rich are going to save a whole lot of money if the cost of elder care can be kept to a minimum and part of that is keeping people in their homes, having them cared for by low wage workers and having them not live too long after they start needing that kind of care. With that understanding I would not want to be one of those workers.
