If we ended all unnecessary consumption we could immediately solve the problem. Strict rationing. That would kill a lot of jobs so we would have to support those people who we demanded their jobs go away. Food, healthcare and shelter, everything else is optional. Even food, healthcare and shelter need to be limited to the least polluting/extractive options. No luxury. We could beat this if we wanted or I mean the rich could beat this if they wanted.

It is clear why some people are in denial and others are glad others are in denial. The sacrifice required to solve the problem is not one that any of us are willing to make.

The social crisis would be huge. We would have to force people in essential jobs to work and I am not talking about what are now low wage jobs. I am talking about Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Technicians, the people who keep the essential services that provide food, medicine and shelter running. Why would we have to force them to work? What is the point of making a lot of money if there are no luxuries or benefits to be purchased. Are you going to give essential workers larger rations or special perks? Dystopian at best.
