Imagine a huge solar furnace in the desert for cooking cement or smelting iron. Does not even need rare materials just a bunch of mirrors. Does not need energy storage, or transmission or fossil fuels. Similar technology as is used in utility type thermal solar power plants, those don't need solar panels either. A company I worked for built one of those more than 30 years ago.
