It continues because it works in a scary way. Violence, threats of violence, intimidation, and bullying have been effective at getting men what they want or what they think they want and what they find as satisfying and then when it fails it leads to the final suicidal violence. It is a learned and observed behavior that often does have a positive satisfying reinforcing feedback.
