It is a good story but I think you have picked the wrong word:

psychosis

[sīˈkōsəs]

NOUN

a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality

more likely:

neurosis

[n(y)o͝oˈrōsəs]

NOUN

medicine

a relatively mild mental illness that is not caused by organic disease, involving symptoms of stress (depression, anxiety, obsessive behavior, paranoia, hypochondria) but not a radical loss of touch with reality

And:

delusional

[dəˈlo͞oZH(ə)nəl]

ADJECTIVE

characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder.

Many Americans are delusional neurotics, they have been brainwashed, programed or otherwise taught false beliefs that they now strongly hold. We must deprogram as least enough that we can have a majority of rational voters so the democracy can function more properly.
