It is common in my industry in America to have every other Friday off, 12 or 13 holidays and 2 to 6 weeks of vacation each year based on seniority. Those are the rules I have worked under for almost two decades. When I got laid off, I got paid for 26 weeks of severance and 400 hours of unused vacation. I never wanted and could never use 6 weeks of vacation a year.
